In recent years and more so following the #metoo movement, much of the conversation about masculinity is often negative and described as “toxic”. Indeed, very little is discussed regarding healthy ways to express masculinity. Many mental health professionals are advocating for redefining masculinity and the societal expectations placed on men. A recent article written by Taneasha White provides excellent examples of redefining healthy masculinity. Some of the ways we can help include checking our own internal and external biases, holding each other accountable and addressing problematic behaviour. Only then will we start to see changes within ourselves and our community.
